Once again it’s that time of year! Come out and join the merchants on Huntington Drive for San Marino’s Traditional Christmas Around the Drive.
The festivities take place on Huntington Drive between Del Mar Ave. and Bedford Rd.

Santa will be arriving on the Old #1 Fire Truck at City Hall at 6:00 p.m.

Enjoy treats from the shopkeepers as they will be keeping their businesses open after hours to offer you snacks as you stroll down the drive. There will also be trolley rides and carolers to get you into the Holiday spirit!

Be sure to come out and support the businesses on Huntington Drive who have made this evening possible for the community for over 15 years.

This year the Southland Orchid Show is celebrating  its  5oth Anniversary with an amazing show and sale!

Friday, October 16th 12:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Sat. & Sun., October 17th & 18th 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Hundreds of exotic blooms, from Arpophyllum to Zygopetalum, will be on view in elaborate displays interpreting this year’s theme, the “Golden Age of Orchids.” Dozens of local and international exhibitors will be featured, and vendors will have a wide range of orchid plants and related merchandise for sale.

Lectures will be given on Saturday and Sunday. You will be able to learn about Orchid conservation strategies, the species that make up the modern pot plant orchid, the origin of species by natural selection, and much much more!

Be sure to stop by and view the lovely Orchids that will be on display this weekend!

Many spoke for and against the park, but ultimately there was concern about the effects of the park on nearby home-owners, associated costs and the fact that the San Marino dog park would need to be disassembled for one month each year to accommodate the annual San Marino Fishing Derby and Girl Scout Acitivities.

I have to say though that Derek Barker did an outstanding job since 4th of July presenting his concept of the dog park to the San Marino recreation committee, City Council AND the community.

Holiday lights were everywhere in San Marino and trolleys made their way up and down Huntington Drive.

Our brave fire fighters and the police were on hand and opened their doors to kids of all ages.

Santa and the Carollers were a hit!!!

San Marino City Council Meeting will be held at the Crowell Public Library at 7:30 in the Barth Community Meeting room.

The idea of a dog park is to have an off-leash area where dogs can run freely.  A dog park is as much a social gathering for people as it is for dogs.

The proposed dog park will be built by the Boy Scouts, high school students and other volunteers and will be housed at the unused maintenance yard within Lacy Park, not too far from the tennis courts.

It will be maintained by the current Lacy Park staff.

Can’t wait to drive by St. Albans Road at night and see it sparkle. Hint… drive slowly… it’s a very short block.

I don’t know about you, but if you haven’t been to Christmas Around the Drive in San Marino, you are missing out on the true family, small town celebration.  My kids have always looked forward to seeing what activities will be offered by our wonderful San Marino businesses.  One year there was face painting.  Another year, an artist was there to sketch caricatures of the kids.

Each year, we have an opportunity to meet new neighbors and old friends and enjoy catching up, taking a trolley ride around Huntington Drive (between Bedford and Del Mar) and stopping by to say hello to our local businesses.

Don’t miss it this Friday, December 5th from 5 pm to 8:30 pm.  And, don’t forget that Santa will actually be making a trip to our very own San Marino and will be waiting for you (old or young!) at 6 pm in front of San Marino City Hall.

Ms. Thayer did a fantastic job, not only from the creative perspective, but rallying over 70 kids of whom most have not performed.  The parent co-chairs – Pegine Grayson and Jo Beth Cohen had all the tasks planned out to the minute detail.  Congrats!
