San Marino, Pasadena’s neighbor outside of Los Angeles, looked like a town you might see in a Hopper painting. The houses were all built before the 1950s, and no one was visible on the streets, sidewalks, or lawns. It made me wonder if there was not a law against being seen in public. There was a law against everything else. San Marino was described as “the strictest city in America.”

I thought that it would be fun to see what’s happening in the San Marino real estate market real time as well. Here’s a chart that will give you an at a glance look at median and average home prices, inventory and absorption, and of course price per square foot.

San Marino library is located at 1890 Huntington Drive in San Marino, California (corner of West Drive.) Come early for easy parking.

Also, right next to the library, Huntington Middle School is the location for the annual Chinese New Year Carnival sponosored by the Chinese School. The carnival begins at 9:30 am and ends at 1 pm.

If you make it out to San Marino today, don’t forget to visit Lacy Park. It’s just a few blocks away. Remember that on weekends, there’s a small entry fee so bring some cash.

If you have lots of cash, and I mean over $2 million in cash, it’s your opportunity to pick up this majestic estate on Wednesday. The auction will be held on the steps of the Los Angeles County Courthouse in Norwalk this Wednesday at 10 am. The address is 12720 Norwalk Blvd.

Minimum bid is $1,992,558 for the first mortgage and $240,000 for the 2nd mortgage.

These types of foreclosure sales require ALL CASH and do not guarantee clear title. This means that if there are any liens against the property (mechanic’s, tax liens, etc) the new owner will inherit them.

If there are no takers, this San Marino home will be marketed as a foreclosure by a real estate agent and will hit our local Multiple Listing Service – just like the San Marino foreclosure home (bank owned home) I wrote about over the weekend.

SEARCH HOMES FOR SALE IN SAN MARINO

On Saturday, Huntington Middle School had their annual Hauntington Breakfast. Many showed up to support the school. The PTA did a spectacular job with decorations, preparing and serving yummy pancakes. Wolfgang Puck’s catering company was on hand to serve VIP patrons.

Following the breakfast, San Marino’s Lacy Park hosted their first annual Halloween Dog Parade. The doggies in their Halloween best were given awards for the Cutest Costume, Most Creative, Dog/Owner Look Alike and many more.

There’s some discussion about whether or not to allow a Farmer’s Market in the city of San Marino. 

If approved by city council, San Marino will have yummy fresh fruit and veggies every Sunday morning from 9 am until 1 pm.

The location under consideration for this weekly Farmer’s Market is on the North-West corner of Huntington Drive and Sierra Madre.

Some of the concerns include early morning noise during set up since there are homes close to the proposed site and clean up after the market.
